What is NAD+?

NAD+ is a coenzyme found in every cell. It carries electrons in the reactions that turn food into cellular energy, and it is used by enzymes involved in DNA repair and cell signaling, including the sirtuins.

Studies show that NAD+ levels decline with age in several tissues. Whether NAD+ is appropriate for you is a decision your clinician makes based on your health evaluation.

How NAD+ works

  • Cellular energyNAD+ is a central coenzyme in the metabolic reactions that convert food into usable energy.
  • DNA repair and signalingEnzymes such as sirtuins and PARPs consume NAD+ as they work, and the body continually rebuilds it from forms of vitamin B3.
  • Direct supplyA subcutaneous injection supplies the coenzyme directly. Your clinician sets the dose and schedule.

What the evidence shows: research on whether restoring NAD+ improves health in people is ongoing, and its benefits have not been established. There is no FDA-approved NAD+ injection. Individual results vary.
