Two ways to support growth hormone

Sermorelin and Tesamorelin both signal your pituitary gland to release your own growth hormone in its natural rhythm. They differ in how long they last and what they're best studied for. Your clinician will help you choose.

Tesamorelin

For stubborn abdominal fat and body composition

15–18%average reduction in visceral (deep abdominal) fat over 26 weeks in the clinical trials behind Egrifta®, the FDA-approved form of tesamorelin1,2

What it is

A modified growth hormone–releasing hormone (GHRH) analog. A fatty-acid chain added to the molecule makes it more stable and longer-acting than natural GHRH.

Potential benefits

  • Reduces visceral fat around the organs1,2
  • Preserves lean muscle while fat decreases1
  • Improved triglyceride levels in trials1
  • Reduced liver fat in a follow-up clinical trial3
  • Raises IGF-1, a marker of growth hormone activity1

How it's used

A small daily injection under the skin. Your clinician sets your dose. In trials, visceral fat returned after treatment stopped, so results depend on continued use.2

Sermorelin

For foundational growth hormone support

GH + IGF-1levels increased with nightly sermorelin in studies of healthy older adults4,5

What it is

The first 29 amino acids of natural GHRH, the active portion of the hormone. It was previously FDA-approved as Geref® and later discontinued by its manufacturer.

Potential benefits

  • Stimulates your body's own growth hormone release4,5
  • Increases IGF-1 levels in older adults4,5
  • Small studies suggested improvements in lean body mass4,5
  • Short-acting, closely following the body's natural pulse6

How it's used

A small daily injection under the skin, typically at bedtime to match the body's natural nighttime growth hormone release. Your clinician sets your dose.

Important safety information

Who should not use these medications: people who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active cancer, or are allergic to either peptide or its ingredients. Tesamorelin should not be used by people with a disrupted pituitary or hypothalamus, such as after pituitary surgery, pituitary tumor, or head radiation.

Common side effects: injection-site redness, itching, or pain; joint or muscle pain; swelling in the hands or feet; numbness or tingling; headache; and flushing.

Tell your clinician if you have diabetes or high blood sugar, a history of cancer, or take other hormone medications. Growth hormone–related therapies can raise blood sugar, so your clinician may check glucose and IGF-1 levels during treatment.

Stop use and seek medical care right away if you have signs of a serious allergic reaction, such as a rash, hives, swelling of the face or throat, or trouble breathing.

This is not a complete list. Review all risks and side effects with your clinician.
